~Memories / Past : One winter when she was a little filly, barely older than a foal, the frost ruined her family's crops before they could pick them. Now they couldn't feed themselves through the winter, and because of slow sales the past spring and summer they had very little money to buy food.
Despite being very young Raspberry was determined to help her family any way possible. She knew of those scary ponies who lived a few towns away, they were big and mean, and lived in a big noisy building. But she also knew they said they'd pay lots of money for test subject, how much money she wasn't sure but any amount would probably help.
The only problem was how to get there, it was much to far to walk, especially in this cold. She could take the train but that would cost money. After some thinking she decided to take a few coins and promised she'd replace them later. She then waited until her family fell asleep to sneak out into the night.
By the time she got off the train it was pitch black with no pony anywhere. She was very scared but kept going until she finally found the big noisy building, it was still bright and it's windows glowed yellow. Nervously she knocked on the door until it opened.
After being asked a few questions she was let into the building, the door locking behind her. She was then knocked out, and dragged away by lime green magic.
The next morning she woke up on the street outside, her only blanket a light dusting of snow. She got up and shook the snow off before yawning, trying to remember what happened. She suddenly noticed a red bag laying in the snow next to her, she opened it up and gazed in awe at the large amount of bits and gems, this was exactly what she'd hoped for. She quickly ran home, not noticing the thorny raspberry vines wrapped around her hind legs.
When she got home her family was quick to discover their kin's new physical feature. After the initial shock wore off they were quick to pepper her with questions. After some explanation and the reveal of her new treasure her family hugged her tightly, making her promise to never do something so dangerous ever again.
The problem with dealing with her new raspberry vines was how were they to explain their appearance, they were at first pretty short so they could be covered up simply by wearing boots or a long skirt. But as she grew older the vines grew longer and soon they had to wrap them around her legs to keep them manageable. Those vines weren't the only change in her though, her family noticed she had gained a special connection with her plants, when she talked to her flowers they seemed to smell a bit sweeter, when she grew fruits and vegetables they were much sweeter. Whatever those ponies had done to her those many nights ago, it had not only changed her appearance but possibly her mind.
She eventually gave up trying to hide the vines that grow out of her legs but every time she is asked about them she never answers.
